Italy protects the fishing sector from unjustified criminalization

“The agreement reached for fishing in the Mediterranean waters demonstrates once again that Italy is not isolated in Europe. Our nation, thanks to the work of Minister Lollobrigida during the negotiations at the Agrifish Council in Brussels, was a protagonist in the battle to protect a sector that risked unjustified criminalization and that would have turned into a death blow for fishermen. For the first time, for the whole of next year, there will be no cuts in fishing days. While for shrimp quotas the reduction goes from 29%, as initially proposed by the Commission, to six percentage points: another way to protect a key market for the Italian economy. The future of the fishing sector, in fact, also depends on the guarantee and certainty for operators to be able to continue working. The measures brought to the table in Brussels would have mortified the vitality of a sector that is an essential priority. Continuing to tolerate a punitive attitude would have been unforgivable. ...
