Europe is racing against time to import as much coffee as possible before the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) takes effect on December 30, 2024. This regulation imposes traceability requirements on coffee exporting countries, potentially leading to a decrease in coffee imports and a global price increase. In anticipation of a supply shortage in the first quarter of 2025, European roasters are stockpiling coffee. Meanwhile, Brazil has seen a significant increase in coffee exports to the EU, and Uganda is emerging as a key Robusta coffee supplier. Cameroon is also making efforts to meet the EUDR. However, the lack of detailed implementation guidelines from the European Commission has caused anxiety among traders.
