In her State of the Union address, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a new initiative: "Today I can announce that we will increase our budget for promotion to launch a new campaign 'Buy European Food'. Because we can proudly say that our European foods are the best in the world." Farming organizations representing the European sectors for poultry, rabbit meat, and eggs welcome this recognition of the high standards and quality of European food. However, for the "Buy European Food" campaign to make sense, consumers must have access to clear information about the origin of the food they buy and consume. Currently, EU rules require labeling of origin only for fresh poultry meat and eggs.
