Traditional watermelons, both seedless and regular, remain popular for the 2024 summer season despite consumer preferences for smaller sizes and seedless varieties. Italian watermelons, weighing between 8-18 kg, are selling well in European markets at a price of EUR 0.40/kg. Daniele and Nadia Martucci from Martucci Srl in Italy have started exporting these watermelons to Germany, France, and Poland. Smaller traditional watermelons, weighing 9-10 kg, are competing with Moroccan and Greek watermelons due to their crunchy texture and high sugar content, and are sold at a price of around 0.40 EUR/kg.
