European study reveals key solutions to strengthen resilience in the dairy sector

A pan-European study has analysed a range of strategies to make the dairy sector more resilient to current environmental, economic and social challenges. The project, entitled Resilience for Dairy, identified that improving technical efficiency on farms is the central strategy to achieve greater resilience at farm level. The study assessed solutions in different impact areas, such as economic and social resilience, technical efficiency, environmental care, animal welfare and social perception. The findings show that for the growth of the sector to be sustainable, it is essential to adopt production systems that generate viable income for farmers, reduce environmental impact and are valued by both consumers and society at large.
