An Guanghui, economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Argentina, employed a resource as diplomatic as it was didactic to communicate, indirectly, that the country is sleeping through the commercial opportunities offered by the Asian nation. In 2024, trade between Brazil and China—said An Guanghui at the China Agribusiness Day held this Thursday—reached 188 billion dollars, while the figure for Argentina amounted to just 17.7 billion. That is: ten times less! What the Chinese official did not say is that in 2024 Brazil registered a trade surplus with China of 31.3 billion dollars, while in that year Argentina experienced a trade deficit of 5.6 billion with the Asian country. An Guanghui also mentioned that in 2024 Chilean exports of cherries were 3.575 billion dollars, most of which were sent to China.
