Since 2011, the Gyeongbuk Saegimcheon Agricultural Cooperative, led by Chairman Kim Chang-jip, has made significant strides in expanding its grape export operations to 14 countries, with exports surpassing $4 million in 2021. By prioritizing quality, particularly with their 'Shine Muscat' grapes, and tailoring export strategies to meet the cultural preferences of different markets like Vietnam and Singapore, the cooperative has seen substantial growth. Despite facing challenges such as the need for overseas certification and the cessation of domestic export logistics cost support, the cooperative is ambitiously aiming for $5 million in exports. They are exploring new markets and advocating for more government support and policy funding to improve the profitability of exports for farmers.
