The German dairy industry faced challenging export conditions in 2020 due to the pandemic, leading to low prices and pressure. Despite these challenges, the cheese segment experienced a 2.7% growth in volume, with the majority staying within the EU. There was an increase in demand in countries such as the Netherlands, France, Austria, Belgium, and the UK. However, exports to the USA decreased due to tariffs. Butter experienced significant losses, with a 20% drop in motorized traffic to third countries. Skimmed milk powder exports also fell by 10%, with the African region and Asia asking for less. Sales of milk and cream in commercial pack sizes also declined, with a 1% drop to 787,000 t. Despite these challenges, Germany delivered 40% more drinking milk directly to China.
