The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has initiated a strategy to enhance the palm cultivation and date production sector in Egypt. The strategy, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, aims to increase the export value of dates to $250 million annually in the next five years and to $500 million within 10 years. It also seeks to reduce wastage of fresh dates to 15% and cut supply chain production costs by 20%. The plan includes recommendations on production, quality, marketing, packaging, manufacturing, and export of dates.
