A strategy to sustainably grow The Gambia’s oyster sector was presented to 50 experts and stakeholders. The plan aims to improve the livelihoods of women, who make up a significant portion of small-scale producers, and address the issue of declining oyster stocks. The strategy was developed with the help of FISH4ACP, a global fish value chain development initiative, and receives support from the EU and BMZ. It focuses on sustainable production, responsible resource management, especially in the Tanbi Wetland, and includes plans for growth in oyster aquaculture, marketing, and product development. A endorsement of the strategy is expected later this year.
