The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported a slight decrease in the world food price index to 133.7 in December from 134.9 in November, due to a revision in the November data. Despite this minor decrease, the index remained 8.1% higher than in 2020, marking its highest level since 2011. The increase in the index is attributed to a decrease in yield and a surge in global demand. The FAO observed that while most food price categories saw a decline in December, there was a sharp increase in the prices of all main food categories throughout the year, especially dairy products.
