The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), backed by the Government of Japan, has initiated the registration for a corn and sunflower seed program to support smallholder farmers and other agricultural producers in Ukraine's conflict-affected regions. This initiative, active until April 12, 2023, aims to distribute seeds across nine regions, covering up to 10 hectares of land per beneficiary. This effort is a part of FAO's broader rapid response plan for Ukraine in 2023, which includes demining activities and financial support for rural households, small farmers, and agricultural enterprises, totaling $205 million, including a $15.5 million EU contribution for demining. The establishment of an FAO Project Office in Ukraine is set to enhance cooperation and support for the Ukrainian agricultural sector, promoting agricultural production, food security, and the development of an export-oriented economy.
