The Spanish Federation of Fruit, Vegetable, Flower, and Live Plant Producers-Exporters Associations (Fepex) has lamented that the European Parliament has approved, by a single vote, allowing Morocco to label as its own the fruit and vegetable products from Western Sahara. This amendment will authorize that the productions from Western Sahara do not carry the origin indication of this non-autonomous territory colonized by Morocco and will be labeled with the name of the regions of origin, contrary to the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the EU labeling regulations that require the country of origin to appear. Morocco will also be in charge of issuing the certificates of conformity for these products with the EU standards, without community supervision, which "implies an unjustified transfer of competences," according to Fepex.
