Donald Trump's management of agricultural policy increasingly resembles –due to the outrageous inconsistencies– that implemented by Commerce Secretary Guillermo Moreno during the Kirchnerist administrations. Like the federal administration that has been closed since the end of last month, the only way to know the progress of public management in the U.S. is through the media, something that can be fatal when improvisation is necessary. This Tuesday, the head of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, gave an interview to the television network CNBC where she made statements that revealed the scant knowledge of the official about the present situation beyond the borders of her nation. When asked about the expansion of the beef export quota being negotiated with Argentina, she said that the South American country "faces a foot-and-mouth disease problem" (sic) and that "we are going to guarantee the protection of our cattle industry."
