The Ministry of Supply in Egypt is planning to import chicken due to a outbreak and unjustified rise in prices in the local poultry market. The imported chicken will cost about EGP 25 less than local chicken, with a price of 95 pounds for 1.5 kilograms. The head of the Poultry Wealth Division at the Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, Abdulaziz Al-Sayyid, stated that the high prices of production inputs is the main problem in the market and that chicken prices will not decrease until these costs decrease. The Ministry will sell the imported chicken in consumer complexes and wholesale companies at a price of 65 pounds per kilo.
