Egypt has reached 85% self-sufficiency in fish production, largely due to fish farming, which contributes 79.7% of the total 2 million tons produced annually. Fish farming yields 1.6 million tons, while natural fisheries provide 400 thousand tons. Fish prices vary, with sea bream costing 160 to 300 pounds per kilo and tilapia 90 to 100 pounds. The average Egyptian consumes 18 kilograms of fish annually, slightly below the global average of 20 kilograms. Efforts are underway to enhance fish exports and improve lake conditions, focusing on lakes like Manzala, Burullus, Mariout, and Bardawil. Frozen fish prices range from 30 to 60 pounds per kilo, and the country aims to increase export rates.
