The horticultural project "Expansion of ginger cultivation in Flanders" was launched on November 1, 2023, with the aim of creating a complete value chain for local ginger. Researchers are focusing on developing suitable plant material and cultivation methods to ensure successful and sustainable ginger farming. They also anticipate being able to offer a new product, young ginger, which is juicier and more aromatic due to local cultivation and not needing thick skins for long-distance transport. The researchers are conducting feasibility studies and cost calculations to inform Flemish growers about the potential of this crop.
