Merchants already offer Christmas items in stores in November, while market stalls appear on the streets with almost unbearable prices. Christmas is perhaps our most intimate holiday, around which a complex ceremony has been built over the centuries. Family members, friends, acquaintances, and colleagues give each other gifts, and everyone sets up a Christmas tree at home. This custom began its conquering journey from 16th-century Germany and was introduced to Hungary in 1824 by Countess Teréz Brunszvik at her property in Martinsvásár. The Christmas market is also a German "invention," with vendors waiting for shoppers in public squares during the four weeks of Advent. It has been recorded that a Striezelmarkt was held in Dresden as early as 1434, named after a braided, yeasted bun (the Striezel) that was preserved.
