In response to the durum wheat market crisis, the Italian Government has initiated a strategy involving the Single National Commission, the Telematic Registry, and supply chain agreements and controls. The aim is to bring transparency to the market and clarify production numbers, particularly given the rise in pasta made without Italian wheat. The 2020 law on traceability of Italian grains is key to this strategy, ensuring consumers are aware of the origin of the wheat in their pasta. This responsibility of traceability is to be shared across the supply chain, not just with farmers.
