The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed food businesses, including e-commerce platforms, to remove the 'A1' and 'A2' milk and milk product labels from packaging as they are misleading and do not conform to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. These labels are not recognized by the current FSSAI regulations. Companies have been given a six-month deadline to remove these labels from their products. Parag Milk Foods Chairman Devendra Shah welcomed the order, stating that the claims of A1 and A2 milk are a marketing gimmick and that the trend worldwide is to eliminate such misleading claims.
