The leadership of the Gambia Farmers Union recently expressed gratitude towards the government for its substantial support in the 2023-2024 groundnut season, notably for slashing fertilizer prices from D2000 in 2022 to D1,150 in 2023, leading to a bumper harvest. This visit to the National Food Security Processing Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC) underscored the government's D1.4 billion investment in groundnut purchases at rates above the global market and its commitment to ensuring timely availability of fertilizer. Both parties emphasized the importance of their collaboration, with the government's initiatives like smart farming and offering the highest payment for groundnuts in the country's history being highlighted as key factors in supporting the agricultural sector.
