Rovigo, located in the Polesine province, is the second largest region for garlic cultivation in Italy, dedicating 387 hectares of land to the crop, which is 11% of the country's total cultivation. Despite weather challenges in 2023, over 600 tons of Polesine DOP garlic, which accounts for nearly half of the garlic cultivation, were marketed. However, Italy's garlic production of 26,700 tonnes falls short of its demand for 48,500 tonnes, leading to imports from countries like Spain, the Netherlands, Egypt, France, Slovenia, and China.
