Brazil: Gaucho pecan industry is close to exporting to China

One of the pecan processing industries in Rio Grande do Sul could be the first to receive certification from China to export to that country, after a trade agreement was signed with Brazil. Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) visited the Pecanita plant on November 1, in Cachoeira do Sul (RS). Pecanita's director, Claiton Wallauer, says that the company, with over 50 years of tradition in pecan, was willing to organize itself for the moment of exporting the shelled pecan. "We started to prepare ourselves. The Chinese agricultural authority asked Mapa for some information on work and product safety. We were able to do this activity because we had been working on international certifications for a long time, such as the Security Quality Food (SQF) for export", he explains.
