A pecan processing plant in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, is on the verge of becoming the first to receive certification to export to China, following a trade agreement between the two countries. The Pecanita plant in Cachoeira do Sul has been visited by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) to evaluate its processing practices and food safety measures. The plant, which has been preparing for export opportunities by obtaining international certifications like the Security Quality Food (SQF) for export, is confident that adjustments will be made in time for the 2025 harvest to be sold in China. This development is anticipated to benefit not only Pecanita but also other local producers, with an expected initial sale of one thousand tons.
