Brazil: The pecan industry of Rio Grande Do Sul prepares to export to China

One of Rio Grande do Sul's pecan processing companies is about to become the first to obtain certification to export to the Chinese market, as a result of a recent trade agreement signed between Brazil and China. On November 1, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) visited the Pecanita plant, located in Cachoeira do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul. Pecanita's director, Claiton Wallauer, highlighted that the company, with over 50 years of experience in the production of pecans, has been preparing to export the shelled product. "We started to organize ourselves. The Chinese agricultural authority requested information from Mapa about work and product safety. We were able to meet these requirements, since we had been working for a long time on international certifications, such as Security Quality Food (SQF), with a view to exporting," explained Wallauer.
