Generous clam closure period announced in Mexico

It establishes the legal restriction of catches of the species in Bahía Magdalena, Baja California Sur, from April 16 to April 30, 2021 and from January 25 to April 30 in subsequent years. By volume, the catch of the species ranks 12th in national fisheries production. Due to its economic value, it is in the 11th place and occupies the seventh step in terms of exported species, mainly to Hong Kong and the United States. In order to promote the sustainable use of the generous clam (Panopea globosa), which is in growing demand in the international market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development presented the temporary closure periods for the Bahía Magdalena area, Baja California Sur.
