The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has declared a disaster area for Georgia growers in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, which caused damage to fruit, vegetable, and pecan production in the state. The declaration allows farmers and producers in 27 Georgia counties to apply for emergency disaster relief, including grants, low-cost loans, and other programs to aid in recovery. The total economic loss caused by Hurricane Idalia is still being calculated, but the affected counties are home to over 7,800 agricultural operations with a farmgate value of over $3.5 billion.
