The German potato processing industry is experiencing modest growth, with a total of 3.78 million tons of potatoes processed in the 2021-2022 season, resulting in 1.14 million tons of end product. The production of frozen chips saw the largest growth, while the starch potato industry saw a decrease in the use of potatoes. The drying industry, which produces flour, flakes, and purees, experienced a 3% decrease in finished product. However, the segment of refrigerated potato products, primarily sold in restaurants and company canteens, saw a slight increase in volume post-pandemic.
