German potato industry is barely growing

The German potato processing industry as a sector is growing, unlike in the Benelux, but barely. This is evident from figures from the statistics service Destatis. However, more potatoes are being processed into chips, which is at the expense of the starch potato industry. There, fewer potatoes were used in the 2021-2022 season. Potato processors in Germany processed a total of 3.78 million tons of potatoes during the past season (which runs from August to August). Of this, 1.14 million tons of end product was produced. With 494,000 tons, frozen chips are the largest product group in the German industry. In second place are cooled potato products with 238,000 tons, closely followed by potato flour and granulate with 234,000 tons.
