The Association of Indonesian Tofu and Tempe Craftsmen Cooperatives (Gapkoptindo) predicts that the price of tofu and tempeh will increase in late 2023 or early 2024 due to the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. Aip Syarifuddin, the chairman of Gapkoptindo, stated that the weak exchange rate will lead to higher prices of imported soybeans, directly impacting the prices of tofu and tempeh. Additionally, the increase in global soybean prices, caused by delayed harvests in the US and Brazil, is also contributing to the rise in prices.
