Global sugar production and consumption could reach new record levels in the upcoming 2025/26 campaign, according to forecasts from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Production will approach 190 million tons, mainly thanks to the expected increase in the two main producing countries in the world - Brazil and India - which will more than compensate for the expected decline in the European Union. Brazil will break its record from the current 2024/25 campaign and could reach 44.7 million tons in the next one due to improved yields from favorable weather conditions for sugarcane cultivation. This greater availability will allow an increase in its exports, as domestic demand will remain stable, even with a slight downward trend. For its part, Indian production will partially recover after two years below 30 million tons and will register a 25% increase compared to the current campaign.
