Peru: Good prices offset lower ginger volume

After Peruvian fresh ginger closed 2023 positively, this new year began with a decline in volume (-42% in January), which was able to compensate with a price that almost tripled. At the end of January, 3,163 tons were exported, worth US$ 10 million. This value was 66% higher thanks to the 186% increase in the average price, which closed at US$ 3.21 per kilogram. In January 2023 it was US$ 1.12 per kilogram. During the first month of 2024, the product reached 15 different destinations, of which the United States stood out, with 67% participation; the Netherlands, with 11%; and Canada, with 9%. It should be noted that in these three countries price increases of more than 100% were recorded, which would continue to affirm the great preference for Peruvian ginger over that from other sources.
