In 2021, Austria's farmers only brought in an average harvest of grain, including grain maize. As Statistics Austria recently finally reported, the total volume amounted to 5.30 million t. That was 7% down on the year before, but 2% up on the ten-year average. However, the results for straw grain and grain maize were very different. The threshing quantity without grain maize was 2.86 million tons. and was thus 12% below the previous year's result and 7% below the long-term average. Grain maize including seed maize, on the other hand, recorded a slight increase of 1% year-on-year at 2.43 million tons, while the ten-year average was exceeded by 13%. The main factor was the expansion of the corn acreage by 3%. The average yield, on the other hand, was almost the same as the previous year at 11.2 t/ha.
