Peru's president of the Committee on Beans and Other Grains of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Jorge Fernández Gil, stated that Peru's legumes have potential but more public-private collaboration is needed to regain competitiveness. He urged the State to train producers in optimal pesticide use and ensure harvest safety, while companies should add more value and diversify the offer. Gil also emphasized the nutritional value of legumes and the need to promote less consumed ones. Despite the nutritional value and differential value of Peruvian stews, legume exports fell by 3% in 2023, with a slight drop of 1% in legume shipments from January to May of this year, totaling US$ 30 million 285 thousand, with the US being the most important destination.
