Basic agricultural product prices, such as coffee and beef, showed significant increases in Brazil over the past 12 months, according to data from the Extended National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15), released in May by IBGE. Ground coffee had an accumulated increase of 83.2% in the period, leading the ranking of highest increases. The increase is attributed to factors such as climate instabilities and international market fluctuations that affect the supply and costs of Brazil's main agricultural commodity. Among products with the highest monthly impact, residential electricity showed an increase of 1.68%. The food and beverages group decelerated, going from 1.14% in April to 0.39% in May. In the protein segment, popular beef cuts also became more expensive. Acém rose 28.27%, followed by alcatra (25.98%), patinho (25.41%), sirloin (24.17%), and filet mignon (23.83%).
