South Korea's Gyeongbuk Province plans to release 2.4 million fish, shellfish, and rockfish fry into the East Sea coast in 2024 to boost the marine ecosystem. The release will include 600,000 flounder and 1.8 million other species such as abalone, sea cucumber, peach shrimp, and improved clams. The province's Fisheries Resources Research Institute will also expand research on East Sea-specialized species and develop smart aquaculture technology. The institute has previously released 79.12 million fish of 21 species, generating an estimated 104.7 billion won in fishing income.
