Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services is introducing new technologies to improve the quality and freshness of strawberries exported from Gyeongnam, a major exporter of Korean strawberries. The introduction of single-stage harvest containers and vehicle-mounted pre-freezers is expected to reduce damage and extend storage periods. The current practice of harvesting immature strawberries to prevent damage during transport results in less sweet, uniformly red fruits. These new technologies have received positive feedback from overseas buyers and are part of efforts to improve the quality perception of Korean strawberries, particularly in comparison to Japanese strawberries.
