South Korea: Gyeongnam Province begins breeding research on major aquaculture varieties

The Gyeongnam Provincial Fisheries Resources Research Institute will mark this year as the first year of breeding research for major aquaculture species and will begin full-scale breed improvement research on five species, including oysters, scallops, red sea bream, rockfish, and mullet. The Gyeongnam Provincial Fisheries Resources Research Institute, in collaboration with the National Institute of Fisheries Science, began research on breeding red sea bream, of which Gyeongnam Province accounts for 70% of the nation's aquaculture production, in 2022.
