In February, Egypt is set to launch two projects aimed at enhancing the value chain and maximizing the potential of the dates and dairy sectors. The first project will use €200,000 to convert whey, a byproduct of soft and dry cheeses that causes environmental pollution, into a useful substance for making juices, energy vehicles, and baby food. This two-year project, which will use modern technologies and 30% low energy, will establish a central unit to serve cheese-producing governorates like Dakahlia and Damietta.
The second project will focus on improving the value chain for Siwa dates and establishing a brand for them, with financial support from Italy. This project will provide technical assistance and support the development of the entire value chain, with the brand label only being given to farms that use specific techniques to produce high-quality dates. The Center for Food Industries and Agricultural Processing Technology will play a key role in providing technical studies and assistance for these projects. The article also highlights the efforts to attract new investments in the dates sector in Egypt, with significant funding already invested and plans to expand palm cultivation and production of dates.
