At over 4500 m above sea level, in the Vilacota annex, Susapaya district, Tarata province, the Regional Directorate of Agriculture Tacna launched a campaign to prevent low temperatures and frostbite in South American camelids, with the aim of reducing animal mortality in the high Andean zones. The campaign includes the delivery of 3000 waterproof vests for young and pregnant mothers, as well as the supply of medications and health care for 7000 South American camelids, through a targeted intervention for animals in critical condition, affected by heavy rains, snowfall, frost, and low temperatures. The actions will be carried out in high Andean sectors of the provinces of Tarata, Candarave, Tacna, and Jorge Basadre, covering communities of the districts of Susapaya, Estique Pampa, Tarucachi, Palca, Cairani, Candarave, and Curibaya, among other rural areas of high climate vulnerability.
