Heat may make open-field lettuce cultivation unfeasible in Brazil by the end of the century

Growing lettuce outdoors in Brazil may become increasingly difficult in the coming decades. This is revealed by climate risk maps prepared by researchers from Embrapa Vegetables (DF), based on projections from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) and models used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The data indicate that, by the end of the century, virtually the entire Brazilian territory will face high or very high risk for the production of the leafy vegetable most consumed by Brazilians.
