Indonesia is the largest producer of palm oil in the world, contributing 56% to global production, followed by Malaysia with 20%. However, the productivity of smallholder oil palm plantations is lower than that of private company plantations, leading to lower yields. To address this, the government is being urged to support farmers with research on superior seeds, education on proper seed usage, and the use of fertilizers and land management processes to increase productivity. The government's role in providing biofertilizers is also mentioned as a way to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers.
