The recent Emater/RS-Ascar Economic Bulletin reports on the dynamic of sweet potatoes and potatoes production in Rio Grande do Sul, with a focus on the Passo Fundo region and its market conditions. It highlights that potato harvests have commenced in Ibiraiaras, with 5% of the 650 hectares already harvested and showing good quality. Despite the normal crop development, the potato market is plagued by a nationwide oversupply, leading to lowered prices, with producers in Rio Grande do Sul currently receiving R$70.00 for white potatoes and R$100.00 for pink potatoes. On the other hand, sweet potato production in the Lajeado region is thriving, allowing for consistent harvests throughout the year, and farmers are actively working to increase branch numbers to recover from adverse weather conditions. No phytosanitary issues have been identified in the sweet potato crops, and the sales price remains stable at R$2.00 to R$3.00 per kilo, reflecting strong local demand.
