Since 2020, the rising price of chicken in Mexico has led to an increase in pork consumption, which grew by 7.2% in 2022. In 2022, Mexico's pork consumption reached a record 2.903.416 tons, a 16% increase from the pre-pandemic period of 2019. Overall, meat consumption in Mexico rose by 3.3% in 2022, totaling 10 thousand tons. Despite the increased chicken prices, its consumption also grew by 3.1% compared to 2021. Chicken remains the most popular meat in Mexico, with 4.692.003 tons consumed. However, pork consumption has seen a significant increase, rising by 31.8% from 2016 to 2022. In response to the demand, Mexico increased its chicken production by 3.9% in 2022, producing 3.804.109 tons. Pork production also increased by 2.5% in 2022, hitting the highest volume in the last 7 years, at 1.728.938 tons, driven by domestic demand.
