High prices inflame the trade in vegetables and fruits in Morocco

Al-Numan Al-Yalawi The prices of vegetables and fruits are witnessing a steady rise, preceded by a rise in the prices of meat, poultry and eggs, as the cheapest type currently costs more than 8 dirhams per kilogram. This concerns carrots and turnips, while the prices of potatoes, tomatoes and onions range between 8 and 12 dirhams, while the prices of the rest exceed the mentioned threshold. Vegetable and fruit sector professionals believe that the current high prices are due to a combination of several factors, most notably the drought that the Kingdom has experienced over the past months, which led to a decline in the yield of agricultural lands, as well as an increase in the prices of fuel, fertilizers and seeds, which was directly reflected in the cost of production, in addition to the multiplicity of Intermediaries before the product reaches the final consumer.
