Hong Kong Center for Food Safety detects trace amounts of nitrofuran metabolites in white eel samples

The Center for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong announced on October 6 that a sample of white eel was found to contain trace amounts of nitrofuran metabolites of banned veterinary drugs. The Center is following up on the incident. ​ A spokesman for the CFS said, "Through its regular food surveillance programme, the CFS collected the above-mentioned eel sample from a stall of the Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale Food Market for testing.
