In Katsina State, farmers have seen an unprecedented increase in maize cultivation over the past ten years, driven by high food prices and a general food crisis. This surge in production is evident across various local government areas, with farmers using drought-tolerant and heat-resistant maize varieties, and intercropping maize with beans to enhance profitability. Despite the increased production, maize prices remain high due to hoarding activities, which are exacerbating food insecurity and driving profits for hoarders.
