A social media controversy has emerged over Bovaer, a methane-inhibiting additive used to combat climate change by reducing methane emissions from livestock. Despite concerns and misinformation spread online, including unfounded claims of a depopulation plot and involvement of Bill Gates, several Australian dairy processors have confirmed that no Australian farms use the additive. The additive has been approved by regulatory and food safety authorities, including the UK Food Standards Agency and the European Food Safety Authority, and is shown to be safe for cows, farmers, and consumers. The manufacturer, DSM Firmenich, insists that the product does not affect milk or meat quality and emphasizes the importance of this innovation in mitigating climate change.
