Icelandic demersal catch increases by 19% compared to May of the previous year, reaching just over 87 thousand tonnes. However, this represents a 14% decrease from May 2023. The increase is attributed to higher catches of cod, haddock, saithe, redfish, and flatfish. Over the 12-month period from June 2023 to May 2024, the total catch was approximately 1.08 million tonnes, marking a 25% decrease due to the lack of capelin catch. These data points are preliminary and have been compiled by the Directorate of Fisheries.
