Wandile Sihlobo, the chief economist of the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz), has urged South African producers to closely monitor the African market and increase supplies where possible for the 2023/24 marketing year. This is due to the anticipated increase in demand for South African agricultural products across the continent. Sihlobo emphasized the importance of not neglecting existing markets in favor of exploring new ones. He also highlighted the potential impact of weather conditions and higher fertilizer prices on crop yields in other African countries. Sihlobo stressed the need for ongoing government and industry engagement with African markets to prevent policy disputes and to continue the growth of South African agricultural exports to the continent.
