The article highlights the potential for a recovery of Peru's non-traditional fishery exports to pre-pandemic levels in 2022, driven by increased exports of scallops and frozen mahi mahi fillets. In 2019, the sector exported 533,171 tons valued at US$1,592 million, but these figures dropped by 11% in volume and 18% in value in 2020 due to the pandemic. However, a recovery was seen in 2021, with a 0.01% increase in volume and a 7% decrease in value compared to 2019. The first seven months of 2022 saw more than 265,000 tons of seafood exported, valued at US$979.5 million. The demand for hydrobiological products, such as fish and shellfish, has been on the rise due to their nutritional benefits. Notably, scallop exports have seen a significant increase in both value and volume, and there has also been a surge in the exports of frozen mahi mahi fillets.
