Peru's anchoveta landings play a crucial role in global fishmeal and fish oil production, with the country contributing approximately 20% of global supply.
The Marine Ingredients Organization (IFFO) predicts that global fishmeal production this year will be 5.6 million tons, with fish oil production between 1.2-1.3 million tons.
According to IFFO's market intelligence report from April 2025, global cumulative fishmeal production increased by approximately 3% year-on-year.
Except for North European market production, which declined year-on-year, most major producing countries achieved growth.
As of April 2025, global cumulative fish oil production increased by 14% year-on-year.
These data are based on information shared by IFFO members from Chile, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritius, Norway, United Kingdom, United States, Peru, South Africa, and Spain, whose fishmeal production represents 40% of global production and fish oil production represents 50% of global production.
